The Benefits of Blogging for Learning English

a.   It can improve learners’ writing ability.

There are four skills that we have to master in learning English;
they are reading, speaking, listening and writing. To master all those skills, we have to be accustomed to practice. Blogging is one of the tools to improve our ability in English, especially in writing skill. Some English learners are difficult to write because they seldom practice writing. Others might be afraid of making mistakes in writing such as grammar, punctuation and so on. Moreover, when we are posting something in our blog, we will think much about the errors in it because it can be seen and commented by anyone. However, we do not need to think much about it. We will never be able to write if we always think about the errors in our writing. Our errors and the comments of our writing will improve our next writing.

b.  Enrich learners’ English vocabulary

When we are writing, we often do not know about certain vocabulary that we are going to write. We will look up our dictionary and find the vocabulary that we do not know. In this case, we are enriching our vocabulary. Fancy that if we are writing 20 postings in our blog and each posting has 10 new vocabularies. How many vocabularies that we will get after writing? How if we always keep writing something in our blog? Therefore, blogging can enrich our vocabulary.  

c.  Improve learners’ self-confidence

Learning English needs self-confidence. Blogging can improve our self-confidence. When we are posting our writing in our blog, for instance, we need much self-confidence. We have to be brave to be criticized for our mistakes in our writing. In this case, we improve our self-confidence.

d.   Reduce English structure errors

The more we write, the better our writing will be. By writing many things we will improve our understanding in English grammar. Moreover, when we are writing in the blog that can be seen anyone, we of course think much about our structures. Remember, the errors in our writing can make our next writing better.

5. It can be a media of collaborative learning.

We can use blog to discuss something. For instance, we do not know the meaning of English slang. We can write it in our blog and ask our members’ opinion about it. When we are discussing something by using English in our blog means that we are improving our English ability.

6. It can enlarge English learners’ sights.

We will never be able to speak or write if we do not know what to speak or write. We will be able to speak or write much if we have a lot of information in our brain. By blogging, we can enlarge our sight. When we are going to write something, for instance, we need the data to support our writing. Then, whenever we search the data, it means we add the information in our brain.

7. It can be a media for the teachers to teach their students.

We can write English material in our blog and ask our students to read it. We can also write the questions on it and ask the students to answer it. This is another way to teach our students English.

8. It can encourage learners’ interest in learning English.

Teachers commonly use blackboard to teach their students. The students will be bored if we cannot vary the situation of our teaching. We can vary the tool we are using to teach the students. By posting English materials for the students to study via internet, it can increase their interest in studying English.  

9. It can be a media to judge our ability in English.

We can look at our previous writings on the blog posting. Then, we compare with our writing now whether there are any improvement on those our writings or not. By doing this we can judge our ability in English.

10. It can be a tool to save English material address.

We can save good addresses of English materials. The addresses that we are saving can be our sources to learn English. We will be easy to study English. We just need to go to internet centre and we sign in our blog, then we will be able to study.  In addition, we can paraphrase the materials and put it in our blog. By doing this, we can improve our ability in English.
