Part of Speech

The system of classifying words based on their function is known as the parts of speech. There are eight parts of speech in English. They are Pronoun, Adjective, Noun, Conjunction, Adverb, Verb, Interjection and Preposition. To make it easy to remember, we can call it PANCA VIP.

   N o u n

Example: Chair, Table, Wall, Pen

~        I need a chair to sit

~        There are many tables in our class

~        The wall is blue outside and white inside

~        Rossi always borrows pen from me but he never returns it.

   A d j e c t i v e

Example: Cute, Good, Cruel, Lazy

~        She is cute but cruel.

~        I have a good dictionary.

~        My father always tells me not to be lazy.

   P r o n o u n

Example: They, I, You, We, She, He, It, us, them, his

~        The students are in the class. They are studying about part of speech.

~        Nessa always practices speaking English. She is able to speak fluently.

~        Benni and Jhon are the clever students in the class. I like to study with them

~        Jerry never talks his problem to anyone.

Example: Go, Take, Study, Speak, Listen

~        I go to school everyday.

~        He takes my book from my bag without permission.

~        Let’s study hard

~        Can you speak English?

~        John often listens to his radio.

Example: In the market, carefully, at 7 o’clock, Seldom

~        My mother is shopping in the market.

~        She drives her new bike carefully.

~        He will be visiting me at 7 o’clock tomorrow.

~        My uncle seldom get angry with me.

Example: And, But, Or

~        He is handsome and rich.

~        She is beautiful but lazy.

~        Which bag do you want to buy? The blue one or the white one?

Example: Wow, Dear me, Oh my God

~        Dear me! Do you always come late?

~        Wow! What a clever girl she is!

~        Oh my God! It is too difficult to do.

   P r e p o s i t i o n

Example: At, In, On

•  She gets up at 8 in the morning and goes to bed at 11 in the evening.
•  Eliz was born on 17^th of November 1989. 
• They will graduate from their senior high school in 2012
