How to Make Ongol-Ongol?
Have you ever heard ‘Ongol-ongol’? For you who the first time hear it you will not say it is a cake but in fact it is a cake. I often taste it. It is quite delicious. My mother likes to make it. I do not know why it is called Ongol-ongol. Every time I ask her, she says it was your grandmother’s favorite cake. ‘She likes to cook it for me when I was child’, my mother said. Therefore, this cake comes from my grandmother.
Ongol-ongol looks like jelly. The texture is elastic and the taste is sweet and delicious. I think you must taste it if you want to know more about it. You do not need to buy it in the market but you can make it by yourself. I will let you know how to make it. Before you cook it, you should have the materials that you will use to make it. They are;


·         100 grams of Corn starch
·         200 grams of Palm Sugar
·         1/2 a Vanilla stick or Vanilla essence
·         500 ml. of Water
·         Pinch of Salt
·         200 gr. of grated fresh Coconut


After you have all of those materials above, you should follow the instruction below. This is the step how to mix all of the things above to become Ongol-ongol.
First of all you should take enough cold water. This water is used to make the corn starch thin. With 500 ml. cold water you pour, 100 grams of corn starch can be mixed smoothly. After that you can add the sugar and then vanilla and salt to the corn starch that you have already mixed with cold water. Then, boil it until you are sure that sugar is already dissolved. After that, you should take it off from the place you use to boil it. Then, pour it in the corn-starch mixture and stir it. After you have stirred it wholly you put it directly into the stove and you simmer it for about 3 minutes. Then, pour it into a tray about 2 cm. deep until it is liquid. Let it cool and then cut it into 2 square. After that grate coconut flesh and add a pinch of salt. Finally, you should roll it with the coconut. It is ready to eat.
The color of Ongol-Ongol is usually like the color of palm sugar. However, you can change the color by adding food coloring based on your favorite color. This cake is really delicious and can be any color you want. You must want to taste it. Cook by yourself and you will know how delicious it is.
