How important to learn English grammar

Have a look what the English learners think about grammar. Here they are:
·   I learn English to be able to speak not to understand English grammar because I never use grammar when I am speaking English to others.
·   I have already memorized a lot of vocabularies but I cannot use them to speak and to write correctly. I think my effort to memorize English words is useless.
·   When I speak, I never think about grammar. I think learning English grammar just makes English difficult.
·   I do not have enough self-confident when I am asked to write. I always think about grammar that makes me difficult to arrange the vocabulary that I have already had in my mind.
·   It is not good speaking English while thinking about grammar so much.
·   I am so confident when I am writing English in forum discussion. The members are easy to understand what I am writing and they know what I want to tell easily.
·   I need to translate my writing in Google translator first before I post in my blog because I will be shy if my English is incorrect.
·   I need my friend to check my writing first before I submit it to my lecturer because my score will be low if there are many mistakes in my writing.
·   And so on.
Seeing the statements above, we know how the English learners think about grammar. They sometimes think that grammar is not important but sometimes they think grammar is very important. How about you? Have you ever thought your grammar is helpful when you are speaking or writing?
We might say that English grammar is not too important to learn because when we are speaking we are never asked about grammar. And we never realize whether we are speaking grammatically or not. For example: when we say ‘where are you going?’ the listeners never ask why we use this expression instead of ‘where will you go?’ the listeners also never ask ‘what tense that is. And then when we say something to our friend in English, we will never say ‘comma’ or other punctuations, we just speak with intonation that tells others it has ‘comma’ in the sentence we say. However, even we never say ‘comma’ when we are speaking and we are never asked about grammar when we are speaking, we should learn about grammar. Why?
For me, English grammar is really crucial because both the readers and the listeners will not be able to be easy to understand if we do not use grammar when we are speaking to them. Moreover, the listeners sometimes will be misunderstanding because different structure in English will affect the meaning of the sentences we speak. Then, we have to use very good grammar when we write in order the readers will be easy to read or another word our writing is readable.
Let’s see the examples below! I got the examples last night when I got debate and discussion class.
·   The government cooperation gives much more better income than the private cooperation.
·   The deliver spends five minutes and fifteen seconds.
·   They weak explanation.
·   They not explain clear and……
·   The government cooperation rules by the government to give income…….

Well, for the first example above, we can say it is not too difficult to understand even the sentence is not true because there is double comparative there. But how is about the second until the last sentences? Can you understand easily? I think English will be funny enough if the speakers speak without using good grammar.

How about these examples below? Let’s see!

1.       X: What is your father doing?
Y: My father is cutting the chicken.
But
X: What’s wrong with the chicken?
Y: The chicken is cutting my father.

2.       Are you married?
But
                Have you married?

3.       I need kicking the ball harder

Can you see the mistakes of the sentences above? How if you say so? Are you not afraid of saying something in English like that? I think it will be dangerous English. The listeners will laugh at you when you say ‘the chicken is cutting my father’. How can the chicken cut your father? Does it have hands that can hold the knife so that your father can be cut? What a funny thing it is! Then you may be clapped when you are saying ‘have you married?’ so that we know how important to understand English grammar is.
Those are just some examples of many that will trouble you during you are learning English. I suggest you not letting English grammar always spoil your day in learning English. Solve this problem as soon as possible. There are many English grammar sources that you can find easily surrounding you. I hope this can open your mind to think that learning English grammar is important.

Thanks
