Simple Present Tense

Look at the paragraph below!

Risky’s Daily Activity

Risky usually gets up at 4 o’clock in the morning. Then, she cleans my room and takes a bath. She puts on her clothes and prays. She helps her parents before she has breakfast in the dinning room, and she never forgets to wash her hands before having breakfast.

After breakfast at about 6 o’clock, she goes to school. She goes to school by motorcycle because her school is far from her house. She arrives at school at about 6.15. After school, she usually has lunch and takes a nap.

In the afternoon, she does her homework and sometimes watches TV. In the evening, she stays at home with her parents and studies her lessons. Then, she goes to bed at about 09.30 pm.

The paragraph above uses simple present to tell about Risky’s activity. How do we know that?

Tenses

When we talk about tense, we also talk about verb. Therefore, if you want to learn about the tense easily, you have to understand about the verb first. Because tense is a changing of the verb. The verb can be ‘base form/V1, past simple/V2, past participle/V3, and present participle/V-ing. To make you easier to understand the verb, please read part of speech in the previous posting. Look at the examples below!

Sentence

Sentence is a group of words that contains at least a subject and a predicate. We sometimes find a long group of words but it does not have a subject and a predicate. We can say it is not a sentence because it does not have a subject and a predicate. It is just a phrase. To make it clearer, have a look the examples below and identify whether they are sentences or phrases.

Preposition

The last part of English speech is preposition. This material, I think, is really vital to learn because we cannot put wrong preposition in a certain word. Each word has its own preposition. Moreover, when we find the completion test that is required us to complete by using preposition. How can we answer correctly if we do not know preposition. Therefore, we have to be able recognize what appropriate preposition to complete the word.

Interjection

Are you ever surprised? When you hear that your relatives getting an accident, what you say? Have you ever said ‘oh my god!’, ‘dear me!’? Look at the conversation below!

Jenny          : Do you know why John did not attend the class this morning, Bell?

Bello           : I heard he got an accident five days ago.

Jenny          : Oh my good! What accident he got?

Bello           : He fell down from the high tree and he broke his right leg.

                     Now, he is in the hospital. Didn’t you know it?

Jenny          : No. Nobody told me. I just hear from you.

                     How if we go to hospital to visit him?

Bello           : That's a good idea.

                     Let's get going.

You see the bold expression in the conversation above? It is an interjection.

Verb

Verb indicates what someone or something does or in another word it can be called as action word. There are many things that we will discuss if we talk about verb deeply. However, this will not tell you all about it because it will be discussed more in the next posting. It does not mean that this is not important to learn. Here I will tell you kinds of verbs. But before telling you about the kinds of verbs, let me give the example words of verbs first. Here are the examples of some verbs!
